Curation

I’ve had several opportunities to curate gallery and commercial spaces, but my most in depth project was curating the Evergreen State College’s permanent collection. These works span the 50 years of the college’s history and multiple genres but lacked the continuity of care, organization, and archiving over the years, so the task at hand was monumental. To show not only the breadth of the collection, but highlight how, over the course of time and social/cultural developments, we need to critically shift our lenses to investigate how, what, and why institutions collect artwork. Unearthing these practices can shift the engagement of not only a wider audience, but more importantly, represent a more accurate cross section of diverse artists.
